Asda launches Kopparberg’s first ever spiced cherry rum – with a special discount

For those looking for a new tipple to enjoy in lockdown, Kopparberg has the answer with its brand new rum. The cider brand is launching its first rum-based alcohol in two formats – one neat spirit, and one ready-mixed can. The products will exclusively be available at Asda from next week.

Though Kopparberg is best known for its fruity ciders with flavours including strawberry and lime, mixed fruits, pear, and sweet apple. 

The Swedish brand also has a range of gins with fun flavours for its signature fruity twist – but this is the first time it’s created a darker spirit. 

The new Cherry Spiced Rum follows the addition of a cherry flavour to its cider range earlier this year, but now shoppers will be able to pick up a stronger drink from the brand. 

The spicy rum launches on Monday June 22 in Asda stores and online – though shoppers may want to use Asda’s store locator to check availability.

The vegan-friendly and gluten-free tipple has an alcohol by volume (ABV) content of 37.5 percent. 

Meanwhile the ready-mixed can version of spiced cherry rum and cola has an ABV of just five percent – making it ideal for all those lockdown picnics. 

Kopparberg said of the exciting launch: “Infused with a bold cherry fruit flavour, the new spirit is inspired by the animals that come alive at night in the dark Swedish forests surrounding the town of Kopparberg.”

The dark drink is sure to be popular as shoppers wait for pubs to reopen around the UK, which isn’t expected until at least July 4.

The two drinks will be launching at a specially discounted price initially, with the £20 bottle of cherry-flavoured rum down to just £18 for a 70cl bottle. 

The four-pack of 250ml cans will also be on promotion when they launch on Monday, at £5 instead of the RRP of £6. 

The brand recommended serving up the flavoured rum with coke in a tall glass with ice and a lime wedge, for the perfect summer drink. 

Kopparberg chose to launch the special rum following a successful launch of its fruity gin range.

However, those watching their calories during lockdown might need to go easy on the rich tipple. 

Just 100ml of neat Kopparberg spiced rum contains 207 calories and 0 grams of sugar – though of course mixing it with a fizzy drink will up the calories. 

But for those looking for a lighter drink, Kopparberg also launched its Hard Seltzer just last month. 

It follows a trend for alcoholic sparkling waters that is sweeping the UK, popular for its low calorie content. 

The flavoured hard seltzers are just £2.20 a can, available in mixed berries, passionfruit or black cherry.
