Cocktails are the perfect beverage to accompany any festive event, whether it be your Christmas Eve celebrations, pre-dinner tipple, or even just a lazy Boxing Day. But with so many combinations to choose from, it can be hard to know exactly what to make – and more importantly, what you need to make them. Express.co.uk have rounded up the best winter-themed cocktails using everything from rum and vodka to fruity syrups and creamy liqueurs.
If you’re a fan of fruity, creamy, rum-based cocktails, this Bacardi gingerbread colada is not one to miss. All you need is six versatile ingredients to recreate this winter-themed version of the classic tropical drink.
- 50ml BACARDÍ Spiced
- 10ml fresh lime juice
- 10ml gingerbread syrup (Monin)
- 20ml Amaretto liqueur
- 30ml Coco Lopez (cream of coconut)
- 40ml pineapple juice
Simply pour all the liquid ingredients into a clean shaker and add a handful of ice cubes. Strain and serve in a tall glass over more ice. For a blended version, add all the ingredients into a blender and blitz with a scoop of ice until smooth. Pour over ice and enjoy with a pineapple wedge and a cherry garnish.
Hot buttered rum
For a winter-warmer cocktail, Bacardi recommended trying their “extra festive” hot buttered rum recipe.
- 200ml BACARDÍ Ocho
- 100ml hot water
- Two cinnamon sticks
- Two star anise
- One heaped tbsp soft brown sugar
- Five small knobs of butter
- Lemon peel
Add all the ingredients to a medium-sized saucepan and stir continually over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Gently heat a glass jug with hot water once the sugar is melted. At this point, simmer for five to 10 minutes to infuse all the flavours and then discard the hot water from the jug. Decant the warm rum into the jug, and pour into glasses before adding a cinnamon stick and lemon twist to garnish.
For vodka and chocolate lovers, Masons of Yorkshire have created the perfect blend of creaminess and fruity flavours to enjoy in the form of a four-ingredient festive cocktail.
- 60ml chocolate vodka
- 25ml raspberry gin
- 12.5ml Lillet Rouge
- 10ml Monin Morello Cherry syrup
Simply stir or shake everything down and strain into a Nick & Nora-style glass. Garnish with dark chocolate shavings for the finishing touch.

For a minty, after-dinner twist, this refreshing yet indulgent martini is worth a try. Stir or shake everything down and strain into a Nick & Nora-style glass with an After Eight garnish.
- 50ml chocolate vodka
- 25ml espresso vodka
- 7.5ml clear Crème de Menthe
- 15ml Gomme or sugar syrup
Mocha Espresso Martini
If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, a coffee-based espresso martini is perfect for the late afternoon and evening.
- 50ml chocolate vodka
- 50ml espresso
- 20ml caramel syrup
- Five dashes Better Bitters chocolate bitters
- Dash of foamer – Ms Betters Bitters miraculous foamer
Stir or shake everything down and strain into a Nick & Nora glass and garnish with cocoa nibs.
