Flapjacks are loved for their baked, oaty texture, and can be flavoured with almost anything.
Whether it be nuts, fruit, chocolate, or even savoury items like vegetables, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste.
Those who want to quickly whip up this tea-time staple need not look further than this easy recipe by cake-loving home, Sarah.
Sharing the recipe on her food blog, Taming Twins, she claimed that it is “the most simple” method in her cookbook.
She said: “Traditionally quick, simple and inexpensive to make, this much-loved British classic sweet treat is so easy and utterly delicious.”

- 225g unsalted butter
- 150g golden syrup
- 150g soft, light brown sugar
- 450g jumbo whole oats/ rolled oats
- One teaspoon of salt (optional)
- 100g milk chocolate, melted

Start by preheating the oven to 170C and lining a 20x20cm baking tray with some greaseproof paper.
Melt the butter, sugar and golden syrup together in a large saucepan over low heat.
Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the mixture from the stove and stir in the oats, followed by the salt. Sarah recommended using a mixture of rolled and jumbo oats to maintain a good texture throughout the flapjacks.
Give the mixture a really good stir to coat the oats befoe pouring it into the lined baking dish.
Gently pat it down with the back of a spoon and bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Sarah said the flapjack will be visibly cooked when “the edges start to brown” and the middle is “soft and wobbly”.
Remove the tin from the oven and leave it cool completely before taking the oaty slab out of the tin.
Cut into 16 squares using a sharp knife, then drizzle each one with melted chocolate before leaving them to set.
