The only way to make a good old fashioned apple pie better is to make it bigger. Want proof? Sam’s Club’s 4.5 pound Member's Mark Apple Lattice Pie just won a blue ribbon at the 25th annual National Pie Championship hosted by the American Pie Council—that’s a pretty BIG accomplishment, if you ask us.
This whopper has more than its size going for it: The filling is made with Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Fuji apples, depending on the season. That’s right, you won’t find any mealy Red Delicious duds in this pie.
And did we mention that it’s dirt cheap? One pie feeds 16 people and will only set you back about $9.

We know what you’re wondering: “What is this National Pie Championship, and how did I not know it existed?!” Here’s the scoop:
A total of 728 pies were entered in three divisions (amateur, professional, and commercial) and pies were judged on flavor and creativity, as well as first and overall impression, according to a press release from the American Pie Council.
“All of these pie enthusiasts represent the best of the best in the pie-making industry,” said Linda Hoskins, Executive Director, American Pie Council. “Over the past 25 years, we’ve grown our pie family of members, while continuously spreading and upholding one of America’s most time-honored traditions through generation after generation—the art of pie making. We’re proud of our 25 years fostering America’s love affair with pie and can’t wait to see what our bakers cook up over the next 25 years!”
