Welcome to Feel Good Five, where we ask people to share the stuff that helps them feel their best.
Tia Mowry-Hardrict has kept herself pretty busy since her days of starring in Sister, Sister with her real life sister, Tamara. Since then, she’s continued to act, gotten married, had two kids, wrote a cookbook, and even starred in her own Cooking Channel show, Tia Mowry at Home. We caught up with Tia to talk about her all-time favorite breakfast combo, how she squeezes 20 minutes of movement in each day, the app that keeps her centered, and more.
1. The best breakfast.
I have so many things going on, so many things on my plate, so I need to have breakfast in the morning that makes me feel good. I love my plain unsweetened Greek yogurt breakfast parfait, with blueberries, bananas, and honey.
2. A low-maintenance daily workout.
I have an eight year old and a toddler who is 16 months, so I put myself on hold for a while. Now it’s all about taking care of myself. I tell people, my latest project is my mind, my body, and my soul. I work 12-16 hour days but my daily workout is so important to me. I have a pact with myself that I’m going to do 20 minutes of something a day, whether it’s stretching, abs, legs, getting on a bike. It makes me happy and relaxes me. I went to the movies with my brother Taj yesterday and there were these giant steps and I was like ‘Taj, let’s sprint up these.” You have to focus on moving, whatever it is.
3. Skin care to maintain that glow.
My favorite skin care product right now is this cleanser from Murad. I use it religiously. I also use this face oil from Kiehl’s.LA is like a desert, it’s so dry, but this gives me that J.Lo glow. My brother was so funny the other day, he was like “Tia, your skin is glowing, are you pregnant?” NOPE.
4. An app that brings the zen.
I am obsessed with my Calm app. Before I had my youngest, I used to meditate but then I fell off the train. This app helps me take care of me. I try to take at least 20 minutes out of the day, 10 in the morning, and 10 at night. Today my husband and I were looking at schools for Cairo, and I had on the Calm app’s music setting in the car. Yes, you can meditate in the car.
5. Family time over everything.
My family recharges me like no other. At times it’s chaotic with a toddler and an eight-year-old with a schedule. When we have quality time, whether that’s a vacation, Sunday breakfast, or eating dinner together, they just recenter me. I get this focus out of nowhere.
