On Thursday, November 5, England will enter a second, four-week lockdown, with many businesses in the hospitality sector set to close. McDonald’s completely closed during the first lockdown, but this time, many are hoping the fast-food chain will keep its Drive-Thru, takeaway and delivery services open for business.
Will McDonald’s close for second lockdown?
McDonald’s will not allow customers into its establishments, however, takeaway, delivery and Drive-Thru services will remain open.
A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “Following last night’s announcement of a new four week lockdown in England, we have confirmed that our Drive-Thru, takeaway and delivery services can remain open.
“Our dine-in areas will be closed during this period starting on November 5.
“We will continue to follow the guidance and regulations as set out by public health and government authorities and will confirm any changes to our services to our employees first and then our customers.”
The fast-food chain has also confirmed the it will offer the same menu as usual when the new lockdown comes into force.
Under the new rules, restaurants, bar and pubs must close, but can still remain open for takeaway and delivery services.
The second lockdown will be in effect in England from November 5 until December 2.
This week, McDonald’s received support from one of it’s biggest fast-food rivals, Burger King.
Sharing a post on their social media, the chain asked Britons to support local fast-food outlets, including McDonald’s.
The statement read: “Order from McDonald’s. We never thought we’d be asking you to do this.
“Just like we never thought we’d be encouraging you to order from KFC, Subway, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Five Guys, Greggs, Taco Bell, Papa John’s, Leon… or any of the other independent food outlets, too numerous to mention here.

“In short, from any of our sister food chains (fast or not so fast).”
It added “restaurants employing thousands of staff really need your support at the moment”, urging people to “keep treating” themselves to “tasty meals through home delivery”.
The Twitter post has so far been shared almost 50,000 times and liked by 136,800.
To reduce social contact, the Government has ordered certain businesses and venues to close.
These include:
- all non-essential retail, including, but not limited to clothing and electronics stores, vehicle showrooms, travel agents, betting shops, auction houses, tailors, car washes, tobacco and vape shops.
- indoor and outdoor leisure facilities such as bowling alleys, leisure centres and gyms, sports facilities including swimming pools, golf courses and driving ranges, dance studios, stables and riding centres, soft play facilities, climbing walls and climbing centres, archery and shooting ranges, water and theme parks,
- entertainment venues such as theatres, concert halls, cinemas, museums and galleries, casinos, adult gaming centres and arcades, bingo halls, bowling alleys, concert halls, zoos and other animal attractions, botanical gardens;
- personal care facilities such as hair, beauty and nail salons, tattoo parlours, spas, massage parlours, body and skin piercing services, non-medical acupuncture, and tanning salons.
