Ria McCullough shared on social media her unconventional way to cook roast potatoes and explained that after her discovery, she wouldn’t cook them in the oven ever again.

Ria explained she used Navan potatoes and she parboiled them for 10 minutes.

She then left them to steam dry in a colander.

Ria added a bit of flour, salt, pepper, onion granules and sage before shaking them.

The trick, she said, is to add “a few glugs” of olive oil to a slow cooker and turn it up to high.

That is so the oil is hot when adding the potatoes.

She then added the potatoes to coat them in the oil.

Ria cooked the potatoes in the slow cooker on high for four hours with a tea towel under the lid, turning twice in between.

She explained that is important to help make the potatoes crisp up.

Ria explained: “Absolute game changer, not sure I’ll make roasties in the oven ever again!

“EDIT- sorry hadn’t realised it would go a bit mad, here’s the method that I wrote in the comments, just in case anyone missed it!!

“Also, I used Navan potatoes.

“I parboiled potatoes for 10 minutes then steam dried.

“While they were cooling down slightly I added a few glugs of mild olive oil to the slow cooker and put it on high so the oil would be hot when adding the potatoes.

“I added a shake of flour, salt, pepper, onion granules and sage to the potatoes and shook them a bit.

“Put them into the hot oil, tossed to coat then had them on high for four hours with a tea towel under the lid, turning twice in between!” she explained.

The post of her unconventional method and a picture of her perfectly cooked and crispy potatoes was inundated with comments.

Facebook user Lesley Kinchin said: “They are amazing, a little bit of oil. Didn’t realise I could use the SC [slow cooker] for anything other than a casserole.”

Lindsay Potter agreed, saying: “Never thought of doing roasties in my SC, but they sure do look amazing.”

“OMG you’ve just saved my Sunday roasts (until I finally get a new oven that is lol) beauties,” user LeaLea Holmes said.

Bernie Wilson commented: “Oooh wow! they look amazing. I am definitely going to try them your way – thank you for sharing.”
