Dr. Anthony Fauci Said He’s Most Looking Forward To Getting A Burger And Beer Post-COVID-19

By now, you’ve probably seen people fantasizing about what they’ll do once they get the COVID-19 vaccine (and presumably once doctors declare it safe after community spread goes down). It’s basically become a meme at this point, with people sharing everything from their simple dreams like having a cocktail with friends inside a cozy bar to more elaborate ones like taking fancy trips and throwing parties. It seems like not even top health officials are immune (…haha) from dreaming up post-COVID-19 fantasy days, as Dr. Anthony Fauci shared this week.
He spoke with 94.7 The Wave host Maggie McKay to discuss a plethora of topics including the thing he’s most looking forward to once it’s safe, and it’s an activity we can all probably relate to missing: having a beer and a burger in a bar. He said he and his wife haven’t really done much other than take-out since February and he’s looking forward to getting back to that tradition.
“It’s a simple thing, but just to go to a restaurant or to a bar where I get home late at night from work, my wife works here at the NIH with me and we almost every night go home together. It’s usually pretty late, I think we’re both kind of in the category of workaholics. And what I used to like a lot was, rather than go home and cook, to just on the way home stop at a favorite small restaurant or a bar and sit there and have a beer and a hamburger or something and just relax.”
For now, though, Dr. Fauci is still urging people to be cautious and said he and his family will not be gathering for Christmas this year, but will instead have their typical dinner over Zoom (he’ll also be celebrating his birthday, Christmas Eve, that way too). Another notable message? Wiping down your groceries is not necessary like people previously may have believed, he says. Just make sure to wash your hands before and after putting them away. You can still wipe them down if you want, but it probably creates more stress than it helps.
