The holiday season comes stacked with its own assortment of delicious flavors. From peppermint to gingerbread to, I guess, juniper, the wonderful tastes that don’t seem to exist at any other point on the calendar are part of the magic. Naturally, those tastes end up in everything from lattes to cookies to, well, soda.
At least that’s the case if some rumors swirling around on Reddit are true. Recently, someone in the Mountain Dew subreddit (a hotbed of leaked information about the green soda and its spinoffs) posted a leak from what appears to be a PepsiCo zoom meeting showing off what the brand has in store for 2021. Among the revelation of “100 days of Baja” (a showcase for the best Dew flavor) and the addition of a permanent fluorescent-pink watermelon flavor to the lineup, the big news has to be the introduction of MTN Dew “Snap’d”, a limited-time gingerbread flavor.
Beyond the fact that it’s a limited-edition holiday flavor set to appear in 2021, there’s not much known about Snap’d. Between artwork that features a whole gang of aggressive gingerbread men and the almost golden hue of this Dew, you can probably guess that the sugar and spice of gingerbread is the star ingredient. But if the image of a gingerbread man holding a candy cane is to be believed, maybe there’s some peppermint in here too?
Whether the peppermint is there or not, the idea of a soda built around the taste of gingerbread is rather unprecedented—perhaps for good reason. As one commenter who likes Mountain Dew enough to participate in its subreddit put it, “Gingerbread Mountain Dew sounds awful lol.”
Of course, we should acknowledge that this isn’t any kind of official communication from PepsicCo about their holiday 2021 intentions. At the same time, it’s hard to see why someone would go out of their way to make a fake powerpoint of hypothetical Dew flavors.
Either way, your taste buds have at least a full year to prepare for gingerbread-flavored Snap’d. Whether or not that would give Mountain/MTN Dew enough time to figure out how to make a gingerbread soda actually work is a different story entirely.
