Trader Joe’s corporate headquarters is shrouded in about as much secrecy as Santa’s Workshop in the North Pole. On account of that, every time a new episode of the Inside Trader Joe’s podcast goes live, I think of it as a rare dispatch from the hardworking elves who toil away to ensure that TJ’s shelves are constantly stocked with delightful groceries.
In the latest Inside Trader Joe’s podcast episode, TJ’s VP of Marketing Product, Matt Sloan, and Marketing Director, Tara Miller, do a deep dive on the store’s plants and flowers. And while I’m a huge fan of TJ’s live-plant offerings, I have to admit that I skipped right to the end of the episode to get the tea on all of the new products they’re planning to release in the next few months.
I am so excited about all of the new products coming to life soon. Let’s all be on our best behavior … because TJ’s is watching.
1. Neapolitan Joe-Joe’s Ice Cream
This seasonal offering will be gracing the freezer section in late spring/early summer. As the name suggests, it’s vanilla and strawberry ice cream with chocolate fudge pieces, a dark chocolate swirl, and pieces of Neapolitan Joe Joe cookies. I need a pint. STAT.
2. Mochi Cake Mix
As far as Trader Joe’s dessert-y offerings go, this mochi cake mix sounds absolutely intriguing. Matt Sloan explains that this cake mix is “made with the same kind of rice material that mochi-wrapped ice cream is made with, but you actually bake it. It apparently has this wonderfully rich, buttery vanilla flavor and this interestingly wonderful texture. Oh and it’s gluten-free.
3. Protein Pancake Mix
This just-add-water pancake mix takes your regular ol’ pancake mix and raises it 10 grams of protein per serving.
4. Turmeric Ginger Coconut Beverage
Matt explains that because turmeric is in such high demand with TJ’s customers, this golden milk-inspired beverage is making an appearance. “It’s basically a non-dairy version of golden milk, made with coconut milk,” we’re told.
5. Bloody Mary Salsa
I know what you’re thinking — but not so fast. Tara is quick to burst our bubble: “It doesn’t have vodka in it, people!” Instead, this salsa is an homage to the humble tomato, kicked up a notch with celery and spices.
6. Patio Potato Chips
This might be the most mind-blowing new product that TJ’s has come up with yet: chips of various summer-y flavors (bbq, salt and vinegar, homestyle ketchup, and delicious dill) all in one bag. Like skittles. Taste the rainbow. I mean patio!
7. Organic Ethiopian Peaberry Small Lot Coffee
We’ve spoken at length about Trader Joe’s coffee offerings before, but this latest option is truly unique. It’s the first time that this particular coffee has ever been offered outside of Ethiopia, made of a specific type of coffee seed (not bean!) called the peaberry. Matt explains that the special way they grow makes them “the cream of the crop, if you will.”
Which one of these are you most excited about?
