Mark Labbett continues to wow viewers after losing a whopping 10 stone, leaving many wondering just how he did it. While he has credited a few methods that have helped him shed the weight over the years, the former maths teacher revealed he also cut down on two major food groups.

The Beast, as he’s known on the ITV show, explained he cut back on carbs and sugar, which dramatically changed his appearance.

Research has shown that low-carb diets can be part of an effective weight loss strategy.

This type of diet plan restricts people’s intake of carbohydrates, including sugars and starches like bread and pasta, and replaces them with protein, healthy fats, and vegetables.

Speaking on Loose Women, he explained: “I’m on a high-protein diet, so eating an awful lot of meat and lean meat.

“As much as I love chips and other carbs, I’m having quite a bit less than I used to.

“And it’s sort of became a virtuous cycle, I’m not feeling that hungry, so you eat less, so you lose weight, so you’re not as hungry.”

When he made his first TV debut, Mark weighed a whopping 29 stone at his heaviest, which was back in 2003.

But he went on to detail that he lost three stone during the pandemic as he was looking after his son, Lawrence.

“The principal thing has been running around after a hyperactive three-year-old in lockdown when the nursery was shut,” he laughed.

“I found at the end of the evening instead of going to the fridge for late-night snacking, all I could do was collapse on the bed.”

He also branded his adorable golden retriever his “personal trainer”, as he helped him kick-start his new exercise routine.

Mark explained that his pooch Baloo, kept him motivated to keep fit during his appearance on ITV’s The Pet Show, admitting his wife suggested he begin walking him for exercise.

“I was walking him around the fields, taking me places,” he said. “I think he’s helped a lot, simply because I’m doing more activity.”

With his new diet and exercise regime going smoothly, he revealed he lost weight “gradually”, and noticed his success when he went clothes shopping.

“I dropped Xs off my size, from 5XL to 4XL, and it looks like the next time I go shopping I’ll be able to squeeze into XL pants,” he beamed. “Small things but important things.”

In January, the TV quizzer shared a photo of himself looking slim as fans gushed over all his hard work.

The Instagram post caption read: “Down to 52inch chest from 60. So was 5XL, now 2XL. Still a lot of work to do.”

Fans were quick to congratulate Mark on his hard work and gushed over his success wondering just how he did it.
