The keto diet requires a lot of commitment and effort to follow, whether that’s cooking ketogenic recipes or cutting down portion sizes to stay within your calorie allowance. Some slimmers may find it tricky to follow because high fat ketogenic foods like nuts contain a lot of calories – something which those who are dieting may be watching. However there is an alternative which could help you reach your weight loss goals without calorie counting.

The ketogenic or keto diet simply involves cutting out carbs and eating a high fat content daily.

This puts your body into a metabolic state known as ketosis which can help you lose weight.

Ketosis is a process that happens when your body doesn’t have enough carbohydrates to burn for energy.

Instead, it burns fat and makes things called ketones, which it can use for fuel.

Calorie counting can be time consuming as well as de-motivating for many, especially when on the keto diet as the recommended foods are high in fat.

Adjusting to a keto lifestyle may be easier than dieters may think as you don’t actually have to count your calories whilst on the diet as long as you are following the diet correctly.

That’s why some people have made their own version of the diet known as the “lazy keto” plan which involves only counting carbs.

This makes it much easier for people to stick to as their carb intake should generally be very low with guidelines recommending slimmers eat no more than 20g of carbs per day.

What’s more is that the “lazy keto” diet doesn’t require calorie counting of protein or fat either as long as the fat content is larger than the protein.

Around 75-90g of your foods should be made up from high-fat content foods that include nuts, avocados, butter and meats including bacon.

Other foods you can eat on the diet include:
• Keto shakes
• Fresh veg
• Low sugar fruit
• Dark chocolate
• Plain yoghurt
• Cheese
• Fish

Even though “lazy keto” doesn’t have any rules about calorie restriction, studies suggest keto diets may suppress appetite and food cravings.

This may make it easier to reduce your calorie intake without feeling hungry and put your diet into a deficit without you knowing or having to worry about it.

However, some nutritional experts have said that the “lazy keto” diet is more like an adaptation of the Atkins diet.

This is because the Atkins diet allows you to add more carbs into your diet gradually but you don’t necessarily have to calorie count.

“Lazy keto” could also be hard to reach ketosis because you are not tracking your intake of fat, protein or carbs.

To reach ketosis, not only do you have to severely restrict your carb and fat intake but also monitor your protein intake as eating too much can hinder your chances of entering ketosis.

However once dieters start to see weight loss results they will know what does and doesn’t work for them.

You should always consult a doctor before undertaking a diet as each body has different needs and this may not necessarily work for you.
