The research analysed more than 30 popular sports to find out which burns the most calories.

It showed spending an hour on the squash court could torch a whopping 886 calories.

This is closely followed by running, rugby, skipping and martial arts, which all burn around 738 calories an hour.

The study also revealed which workouts burn the least amount of calories in the same time period.

9. Horse riding – 295 calories

10. Golf – 332 calories

Fans of yoga would work off the least amount of calories in a session, according to the study.

Surfing, pilates, sailing and weightlifting all followed closely, burning 221 calories in an hour.

Other sports including table tennis, horse riding and golf could also leave dieters struggling to feel the burn.
